3 Sweet and Thoughtful Mother’s Day Crafts for Kids

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to plan some special surprises with your students to celebrate the amazing moms or guardians in their lives. If you’re looking for Mother’s Day activities or some Mother’s Day crafts for kids in your classroom to create, you’re in the right place.

As teachers, we know how much effort and love our students put into making these Mother’s Day gifts, so I’m sharing three simple yet thoughtful Mother’s Day gift ideas that your students can make this Mother’s Day.

1. Handmade Cards Bursting with Love:

One of the simplest yet most heartfelt gifts your students can create is a handmade card. Encourage them to let their creativity flow! Provide them with colorful construction paper, markers, stickers, and any other craft supplies you have on hand.

Guide them to write a sweet message inside, expressing their love and gratitude for their moms. It could be as simple as “Mom, you’re the best because…” or “Thank you for always being there for me when…”

Encourage them to draw pictures or add little designs that represent their bond with their moms. It could be a drawing of them together, a heart filled with reasons why they love their mom, or even a collage of happy memories.

2. Personalized Photo Frames:

Another wonderful idea is to help your students create personalized photo frames for their moms. You can start with simple cardboard or wooden frames, which you can easily find at any craft store or even make yourself!

Let your students decorate the frames using paint, glitter, buttons, ribbons, or anything else you have available in your classroom. Encourage them to get creative and make each frame as unique as their relationship with their mom.

Once the frames are decorated and dried, help your students print out a special photo of them with their mom. It could be a recent one or a cherished memory from the past. Insert the photo into the frame, and voila! They’ve got a lovely keepsake that their moms will treasure forever.

3. Coupon Book of Acts of Kindness:

For something a bit different, why not have your students create a coupon book filled with acts of kindness that they can do for their moms? This is a thoughtful way for them to show their appreciation and give back to their moms.

Provide them with strips of paper or pre-made templates where they can write down different acts of kindness, such as “Breakfast in bed,” “One free hug,” “Help with chores,” “Movie night of your choice,” or “A day of pampering.”

Encourage your students to think about what their moms would truly appreciate and enjoy. Once they’ve written down their coupons, they can decorate the booklet and present it to their moms on Mother’s Day. It’s a gift that keeps on giving, as their moms can redeem the coupons whenever they need a little extra love and help.

Remember, the most important thing is not the intricacy of the gift, but the love and effort that goes into making it.

Mother’s Day is just weeks away and this is the time of year where people everywhere are searching for the perfect homemade Mother’s Day gifts. We all know that nothing says I love you like sweet DIY Mother’s Day gifts from her children.

If you are looking for Mother’s Day DIY ideas or some Mother’s Day crafts that your students can easily create with their own two hands, you are in the right spot! When I was in the classroom, I always tried to make sure that students had homemade gifts for mom that they could proudly take home and give to her.

Here are my favorite Mother’s Day craft and Mother’s Day gift ideas for students

Mother’s Day Lap Book

With this craft, students will color and decorate a special gift for their mom. They can write a letter to mom, draw a picture of the two of them, give them tea, share what they love about her, create Mother’s Day coupons, and more. This gift is sure to be a hit with all moms!

You can have a Mother’s Day Tea Party and invite all of the moms and caregivers to the classroom for tea and treats. Students will love the opportunity to spend some special time with their moms and the parents are sure to love it too!

Mother’s Day Coupon Book Craft

Another one of my favorite Mother’s Day craft ideas is this coupon book. It’s perfect if you are looking for something simple, quick, and sure to put a smile on any mom’s face. This Mother’s Day Coupon Book is cute and quick! It looks like a matchbook and makes an adorable keepsake!

Mother’s Day Flower Card Writing Activity

The Best Father’s Day Party Ideas

Looking for great ways to celebrate the amazing parents of your students? Father’s Day may be during summer vacation but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate it in your classroom!

You can either celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day separately (check out this amazing Mother’s Day celebration idea here!) or you can combine them both into a super fun Parent’s Day. Not only do you get to bundle it all together, but this is a little more inclusive for kids who don’t have a mom, dad, or traditional caregivers at home. Parent’s Day parties can be for anyone who cares for them!

Here are some fun ways to celebrate Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, OR Parent’s Day.

Invite parents to the school! Doing this in the late afternoon or just the second half of the day will make it easier for parents to leave work if necessary and make it in.
Have a picnic. A simple picnic with chips, sandwiches, and juice is fun for everyone. At the end of the year the weather is usually nice so take it outside and get some sunshine. Just make sure to have a backup plan if it gets rainy! You can request food and supplies from parents ahead of time to save yourself from spending too much on food.
Play some games! Get some frisbees (you can usually find some in the Target Dollar Spot or the Dollar Store this time of year) and let students play with their parents. You can also get some footballs-which would be a hit for Father’s Day!
Take a tour of the decorated classroom. After the picnic and games, invite parents to tour the classroom. You can decorate with students’ artwork or crafts they made for their parents!

Mother’s Day Celebration Ideas

I have always loved celebrating Mother’s Day in my classroom, and students do too! Mothers (or other primary caregivers) are without a doubt a huge and important part of a student’s life. They have unlimited amounts of love and guidance for their children, so students love to celebrate them!

One of my favorite ways to do this is to have Mother’s Day Tea.

This is a special day where we show moms how much we care by having cookies and tea with them.

Before the party you can have the students decorate the cookies especially for their moms using premade sugar cookies with icing and sprinkles. You can go around and take pictures of students with their moms to give to them at the end of the year.

To go along with tea time, students create these sweet Mother’s Day lapbooks.

With this craft, they can color and decorate a special gift for their mom. They can write a letter to mom, draw a picture of the two of them, give them tea, share what they love about her, create Mother’s Day coupons, and more. This gift is sure to be a hit with all moms!

Mother’s Day Tea may be a little more challenging this year because of the pandemic. Some classes are in person again, but some students are still learning from home. If you aren’t able to bring moms into the classroom, you can send these gifts home with students as well.

If you are distance learning, and need something kids can gift virtually, they can create these digital Mother’s Day cards.
